The Avengers want to use it for good purposes while Loki and his army want control of it so they can control the world.

The movie contains a lot of action and fighting scenes. It is a big budget action film so there are a lot of heavily detailed, CGI sets in the film and we see the Avengers fly through the air, all around New York City, and also plan on an immense airship.

There is also a lot of comedy in the film and human, or superhuman, drama. The Avengers are not all friends in the beginning but must learn to work together under Dr. Fury's requests. There is a lot of disagreements among the Avengers. They are truly divided over the best way to get the Tesseract back from Loki's clutches and some of them are suspicions about Dr. Fury's intents regarding having them all together. Some of them feel as if he has been using them while others think his motives are pure.
The movie features a lot of today's most popular stars including Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Chris Evans. Many of these actors played the same characters in different movies and The Avengers goal is to bring them all together under one screen. There is plenty of action and explosions as well as comedic relief.
