How Are Nascar Drivers Athletes
Bristol Motor Speedway is Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s favorite track on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule, but Saturday night, the No. 88 Chevrolet driver was beyond frustrated. His car lacked the speeding he’s been looking for all season – after starting 31st in the – and apparently Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Was only making things worse. Overheard on the radio scanner audio from Saturday’s race, Earnhardt yelled: “What the (expletive) is that idiot doing?! The 17 has hit me twice on the back straightaway the last two laps because he ain’t watching his (expletive) windshield.

Maybe that damn hood is so high he can’t see over it. Crew chief Greg Ives: “10-4.” Earnhardt: “I’m serious. I wasn’t making a joke.” Now, as a whole, NASCAR drivers aren’t the tallest of athletes, but at 6-feet, Earnhardt has a couple inches on Stenhouse, who’s about average for race car drivers at 5-foot-9. Obviously, Stenhouse could see through the windshield of his No. 17 Ford since he finished 14th.

And even though Earnhardt said he was serious, his quip was pretty funny. Other highlights from the Bristol race include yelling at his pit crew – and strangely waving at Matt Kenseth – and Aric Almirola yelling at NASCAR officials for not throwing a caution flag fast enough after he hit the wall. Despite racing at one of NASCAR’s shortest tracks, drivers’ overall hatred of and choice words for each other were pretty mild.,.
